International VCR tapes
Hi, I bought some videos from the UK. I'm from the US, I notice the tapes don't play right. Seems like the play speeds are different. Is there anyone here who knows how to convert the signal so I can play these tapes. Also have some dvds with the same problem. Any suggestions? Bill |

There are three world standards for video: PAL, NTSC and SECAM. These standards are mostly incompatible, although some recent VCRs will play multiple formats.In europe we mainly use PAL and SECAM, in the states NTSC is used.DVD's shouldnt have this problem because there's just one format. There are however region restrictions with DVD's.So unless you have a VCR that can play PAL (which they use in the UK) and NTSC you can use the tape to tape some other movie from tv :) Like i did with the tapes i bought in Laos. |

Recent VCRs? One of my VCRs is over 10 years old, it plays all those 3 standards perfectly. It actually has that fourth "Auto" button, so that I don't have to switch modes manually, it detects it immediately when it starts playing... ZARAZ - Online |

Solution
get a video card in your pc. save the movie on your hard disk and use programs to convert it to ntsc. there are lots of programs which do this look around. |
